Fall is the reason people live in New England, right? Comfortable temperatures for getting outside, cool nights for sleeping, hoodies by the fire, apple picking, pumpkin carving, oh and the smell of those crunchy leaves. It’s all so….delicious.

I’ve decided to round up some of my Favorite Things to do here in the Northeastern “Quiet Corner” Connecticut area. (In no particular order, if you think I missed something, let me know!)

The Great Pumpkin Festival in Putnam is always nice and you’ll have a chance to catch a scenic train ride too!
First Fridays in Putnam is always a great time - the crowd is always invested in the themes. Go downtown with your costumes for October’s First Friday and you’ll even catch a Zombie Fashion Show.
Spooky Nights in Brooklyn on October 20th & 21st. They recommend purchasing tickets in advance- to get the boarding time you want. They also have a “not -so-spooky land” for the little ones.
Get lost in a corn maze! At Fort Hill Farms in Thompson you can get lost in their maze, pick out a pumpkin and grab an ice cream.
Walktober is a volunteer group from The Last Green Valley that gets together to host guided walks and hikes.
Visit an Orchard. This is deserving of it’s own post, and will be in the near future! There are so many orchards to visit with music, cider, DONUTS and, of course, apple picking. Check out Lapsley (Pomfret), Woodstock (Woodstock), Buells (Eastford), and Hyland (Oxford - yeah, it’s out of “the area” but its amazing!) for some classic New England Family Fun.
Take a Sunday Drive. When the leaves start to change, take a nice ride through some scenic Connecticut roads. This is the officially declared scenic list. We enjoy driving down 171/169/198/197 areas (aka the whole town)of Woodstock.
Family Portraits! Fall is the traditional time to have your Family Portraits done, then print them for Christmas gifts and cards. Let me know if you’re interested in a session!
