Rectory School Graduation

Middle school. A time of growth.

The beginning of teenage self-expression, facing towards the light of adulthood. It’s awkward and often the source of my stress (I’m living the “dream” of raising TWO teen girls right now, people).

I’ve been photographing the 9th grade Commencement Ceremony at The Rectory School - a beautiful private day and boarding school with local and international students - for three years. Something I adore about this place (besides it’s amazing location in Pomfret, CT) is the love and family they’ve built along the way.

Maya Gibbs served her school as Class President - the first female and the the first day student to attain this position.

As she addressed the crowd of families and her peers, she found herself choked up; overwhelmed with both joy and sadness. The headmaster first encouraged her, but Maya was quickly joined by her mom, giving her the strength and confidence to continue her heartfelt speech.

A beautiful, raw moment of love and encouragement. Congratulations, Maya.
