Beautiful Strange Irony

“I had a craving for something sweet, so I ate that cranberry sauce you gave me - it was great!” she text me. My exhausted, swollen eyes began crying, again.

Irony is a beautiful and strange thing.

Living on the other side of the US, there’s no way that she could have known that I had just attended the wake of one of my most favorite people.

The cranberry sauce - he made it.

The most beautiful coincidence. A little message from the Universe.

It can be considered an honor, I guess, providing a portrait for a close friend’s obituary. The honor, of course, is all in having been there to document those moments to begin with. While shuffling through images of the engagement session and their wedding, I re-lived those moments. Hearing his laugh behind that smile I captured, remembering the cheesy jokes and silliness in those photos.

It was more pressure than I expected, taking several hours to find The One. That one image that would somehow be there, in the obituary, followed by his name and a short story that could never hold enough words to describe this wonderful human.

He showed love and shared love with everyone. A beautiful way to be.

Before he passed, he left us with the most beautiful reminder of love - a child. His wife was 7 months pregnant at the time he passed. Now a little over a year old, this precious little one has that same twinkle in her eye that he had.

A trait that I am so grateful to see again.

Love & Light,

Nicole
